Some Like It Hot! Warm Season Crops in the Cool PNW Willi Galloway, Pacific Northwest gardening expert, shows how to grow warm season crops in our cool Pacific Northwest climate. The Maritime Pacific Northwest is a great climate for gardening, but heat-loving veggies such as tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers can be a challenge. This talk will demonstrate how to warm up your soil earlier in the spring, show off essential season-extending techniques and products, and give a step-by-step growing plan for maximizing your harvest of heat-loving vegetables. Willi Galloway is the West Coast Editor of "Organic Gardening Magazine" and the Garden Expert on eHow.com. A popular national speaker, she is also a weekly guest on Seattle's KUOW 94.9 gardening program, "Greendays". This talk is part of the Evening Lecture Series, sponsored by the Lake Wilderness Arboretum, The City of Maple Valley and the Alliance of South County Environmentsl Stewards (ACES). Free to the public; door prizes are provided.
Make Your Own Hypertufa Planter Handcraft a charming stone-look pot of your very own! This pot style is very popular in England, where stone troughs commonly were used for outdoor flower gardens. As the original stone troughs became rare and expensive, someone had the idea of hand-casting pots from a mixture of vermiculite, peat moss, and cement to get that same rugged stone look. The post will last for many years, taking on a weathered look over time. Clsss size is limited so register early!
